University Graduates

Are there any legal issues if I want to host a PPV viewing party for my fellow students at my university?

I am in the planning stages of my idea to host a viewing party at my college in one of our auditoriums for WrestleMania 26 this coming March. I am trying to look for any legal issues that could arise if such an event were to take place on a public university. This event is planned to be for my university students only who would need to show their student IDs to get in.

  1. Yes, you have to pay specific viewing rights for showing it in a public setting. This costs about $2k.
  2. The first issue that comes to mind is whether there is something in the agreement between you and the PPV company that limits where and how a program is aired. There may be a limitation on the number of people or if you would be allowed to charge for entry. You should start by looking at agreement. Second, whenever you throw a big party, people can get hurt, the chip dip can be bad, or something else can go wrong. Talk to someone in event planning, but, all in all, this is a small worry.
  3. as long as no $$ is being paid by the guest to see it i plan parties for a living so as far as i know you can't charge a cover but you can sell drinks ect
  4. Only if you're charging admission to see it, otherwise, there is no limit to how many persons may view a legally-purchased program.
