University graduates not intelligent enough to work supermarket tills? What is this all about?

  1. Poor training.
  2. look at george bush. he has an mba.
  3. They went to college to learn a specific trade, they didn't go to learn a rough neck's job at a store. (no offense, but its true)
  4. Well I suppose it means that operating a supermarket till is still not on the curriculum for the law degree, the medicine degree etc etc. Bummer
  5. I don't think that you have paid proper attention to the news report. It seemed to be inferring that "school leavers" might not have the numeracy or literacy skills needed to understand the checkout tills or, indeed, the produce that is for sale in the supermarkets. I believe that the whole point was that most large employers are trying to give extra learning facilities to those folk who are willing to work, yet do not have the full educational skills to be able to function to a decent ability. I think that it's a great move on the part of employers. It's a good chance for folk who think that they will never be employable, to get out into the workplace and get some confidence.
  6. It's about not learning the right skills and maybe partying too much during those college years. I bet you show that person some leeks and he or she will ask you what it is!
  7. That's just a way of a Ignorant idiot trying to make people feel bad. Of course people get trained, but graduates will have careers, not work in supermarkets.
  8. When you make a statement like this you need to provide evidence, otherwise it is meaningless.
