Human Resource positions for recent college graduate without experiences?

I will be graduating in May 2008 with a BA in Business Administration, Human Resource Emphasis. I have no experiences in the HR field, and have a short working history in the field of customer service (about a year as a computer lab assistant and 6 months in test proctoring at my school) I've been trying to look for an internship, but there's no luck. Hardly anyone offers an internship in HR in Utah for some reason. When I look up jobs on job finder websites (monsters, UTworkforce services, classifieds, craigslist etc), even for the entry jobs, they want at least 6 months to 1 year of experiences. I don't know how to get my foot into the HR field, and I'm very worried. Do you have any suggestions, advises or want to share experiences? Thank you! PS This is probably not helpful but I'm fluent in English and Mandarin.

  1. Go to the temporary staffing companies and apply with them. They get contract positions all the time. (They may even need Recruiters in their offices which will give you experience). Even though they may not have a position today in HR, they may in the Spring. Also, you could get determine which companies you would most like to work for and see what kind of temporary jobs they have in those companies. Once you get your foot in the door as a temp and prove your "skills", the manager can open doors that you don't have on your own. While building contacts, you're also earning money. Unemployment in UT is lower than the national average and the large companies are "begging" for good employees. Good luck!
