- Look at philosophicalgourmet.com However, you should look deeper into each university you're considering to see who is actively teaching and what kind of classes do they offer. Just because they have them in the course catalog it doesn't mean that they'll offer it any time soon. UCSD is viewed to have the best faculty because of student reports. However, it is often biased because it depends on the size of the school, the department and how famous the faculty is. You can't go wrong with NYU (they have Thomas Nagel), MIT (Noam Chomsky is a professor emeritus), UC Berkeley (Professor Searle), UCLA (David Kaplan), U of Pittsburgh and U of Michigan. They all have excellent undergrad and grad programs. But also focus on what type of philosophy you want to focus on. Philosophy of science? Then UCSD. Logic? Then UCLA. Language? Then MIT or Berkeley. NYU is often the best consistently, but they lost Saul Kripke to a small college in NY so it's all perspective. Good luck.
