Why do the majority of UK university students dislike conservatives?
Maybe it's just my liberal university, but why does the conservative party and anyone who thinks conservatively get such a bad rep? I've been to a mayoral hustling and i've seen so much marxist and socialist propaganda dotted around the campus. I'm not 'posh' nor am I 'ignorant' but I know that the Labour party has caused so much problems, and why is it that the liberal students in my university take quotes out of context and are not prepared to listen to conservative arguments?

- Sounds like america. Its communist brainwashing showing its fruits.
- because they're gay pinko liberals with no life whatsoever.
- It's sorta traditional for students to be soap-dodging, tree-hugging liberal pinko Socialists. The intelligent ones shake it off after they leave.
- Because conservatism isn't cool, and university is about being cool, hip and "with it". It's the same in Australia. The Liberal (conservative) party benefits most of the kids who go to university by providing benefits for the upper tax brackets, but most of them support the Labour Party anyway. Wait until all the people around you grow up and get jobs and realize a conservative government benefits their high-income lifestyle, they'll change their tune. For now, feel superior.
- stone fox. i dont know anyone in australia at all who supports the liberal party. yes im friends with uni students, im also friends with people with decent paying jobs. the liberals really fucked up with john howard in charge. and look at the state of their party now with brendan nelson in charge. they wont be winning any federal elections with him in charge. and it cant just be uni students who support labor. labor is in charge in every state at state level aswell. the sad fact is one of the highest ranking liberals in control is cambell newman the mayor of brisbane. so yeah id say the majority of australians arent too keen on the liberal/national party right now
- You of all people should know the famous Winston Churchill quote: "If at 20 you're not a Liberal, you don't have a heart. But if at 40 you're not a Conservative, you don't have a brain." These are some of the truest words ever spoken. When people are in High School and University, image is paramount. If you don't wear the right clothes, listen to the right music, or unquestioningly parrot the "cool" political claptrap that their Liberal cultural icons espouse, then you are a social outcast. In the U.S. where I am from, it is cool to hang with the black kids. Hence, how many University students do you think openly show their displeasure with Obama? The problem is, Conservatives long ago got the image of being stodgy, boring, and interested only in the rich. Liberals got the image of being progressive thinkers who are concerned about the "little guy". Ironically, these stereotypes are completely bogus. Liberals may say they are for the environment, but their overall effect has been disasterous. Imagine how much less oil the U.S. would have to import if we had ignored the hippies and pursued nuclear power like France? Liberals really for the average person? Well, their taxes just decimate many families, especially their fondness for taxes such as capital gains and inheritance taxes. Conservatives nowadays are the real progressive thinkers. They are people like Ronald Reagan, who saw the USSR for what it really was when everyone else thought it was indestructible. Conservatives today are people like George Bush who don't see Middle Easterners as so hot-headed and volatile that they can't handle democracy (as Liberals do... isn't that ironic?), but as people who yearn to live in freedom, with guaranteed human rights. Yeah, it's galling how ignorant so many University-aged students are, but partly it is the fault of the overwhelming number of teachers who are Liberal.
