What makes Harvard graduates smarter than other University graduates?

- They're not....its all in their head.
- Depends on what you mean by "smarter." Before becoming a Harvard grad, they have to be accepted into Harvard. Typically, Harvard accepts people at the very top of their class, academically. Many of the accepted students also have lots of extra-curricular activities, making them very well-rounded. Compared to the average university, Harvard students have higher GPAs and standardized test scores. Once they are accepted, they're going to classes with top professors and have top students as their classmates. That provides a stimulating environment from which to learn. In an average university's honors program, a top student may find 40 or 50 other students that match their abilities. At Harvard, everyone is pretty much at the top level, so you can learn from your classmates no matter what class you are in. Harvard also has lots of research going on, so things are typically at the cutting edge.
- Harvard has a lot of advantages. Only the top students are accepted at that school. These people all have strong academic backgrounds and are there to learn and are learning from some of the best. However, that doesn't mean they are smarter. There are a lot of "regular" people out there who probably know more about other topics than a Harvard graduate. Just because they graduated from Harvard doesn't mean they are the smartest at everything, or even within one subject. Experience and life teaches you a lot so just like everyone else, Harvard graduates have a lot of experience and life ahead and much to learn.
