University Graduates

What you think of Obama plan to have more university graduates than other countries?

He said that by 2020 US should be graduating more people from university than any other country, I loved this plan and I think it would revolutionize US, What are your thoughts?

  1. I love it. I also work in higher education.
  2. I think it will be a very hard plan to accomplish. We have so many idiots in America.
  3. great idea, I hope hes meaning percentage wise, because countries like India and China that have a huge population could easily overtake us.
  4. He's going to cure Cancer too. Lordy! we're in for a fun ride woohoo!
  5. You are not going to lower the cost of education if you don't lower the cost of standard of living... the only option is too increase taxes.... he is focusing on the wrong angle... but in truth I agree with his endstate...Its a good goal However, government can't make graduates. Only the people with the drive can....
  6. Unless the government forces everyone to go to college, then it's really up to the people to take it upon themselves to decide to go, now isn't it?
  7. as long as it means giving the kids harder work in middle and HS and getting them prepared for college.. then YES! that's great. i sure hope they don't lower college standards.. i don't want the less intelligent people allowed in school just to meet some quota...
  8. Unfortunantly, most graduates will be from other countries and take all that knowledge back with them. And will we have jobs for them once they get out.
  9. if we're going to have NAFTA and China trade... WE HAVE TO DO THIS... we can't have 70 percent of the nation not going to college... and no jobs for them when they get out of high school... the economy just WON'T WORK on McDonald's jobs...
  10. His plan has more to do with indoctrination, Then education. Think about it, The majority of universities are dominated by liberalism, Given that fact, Why wouldn't he want more university graduates ? His agenda has more to do with securing power for him and his party then beating out or being competitive with other nations . Also, The Roman Empire, Babylon and Ancient Greece were the most advanced educated societies of their time, did this fact keep them from collapsing ? No it did not. God bless.
  11. of course that's a great IDEA. a society full of well-educated people. but how exactly will we come to that? A lot of people say that Obama just talks the talk. I would like to see when his plans come into action. Only time will tell.
  12. THat and keep on educating and graduating prisoners as they eventually have to find their way into the job market and society. This is an unpopular idea using taxpayers toi educate prisoners, but these people do get out. If they are busying getting educated it leaves less time to think criminally. However, it is up to us isnt it
  13. Bad idea. If everyone's college-educated, the incentive of hiring a college-educated person is eliminated. Master's degrees will be sought after, and people will have to spend the $$$ to get the Master's degrees. Let's face it - some people should not get a college education. It would be a waste of their money and time.
  14. I love everything about him. I am so excited about the future of our country. This is amazing & I think W for motivating us. He brought us what we didn't want so we could see what we did want.
  15. What he says and what will happen are two different things..
  16. I think it's awesome.. I also liked how he said no one should drop out of school.. and to think of America first.
  17. Ummmm don't we have that anyway in raw numbers?! I think it's poli-talk and nothing more because we have more people graduating from universities that any other country in raw amounts.
  18. It's great as long as the government is footing the bill.. I would guess that if we don't do that already that we are pretty close. I can't think of a country that graduates more..
  19. It'll just make your degree worthless like the HS diploma is now. They'll have to lower the standards to push this scheme. That's how socialism works and it sucks.
  20. I love this plan, but I can't help but think about the current economy. How will some of these students attend college considering the bailout plan. I mean my generation is going to be paying for this anyway. I am an Obama supporter and I support the bailout plan but if it doesn't work then I don't know where the student loans are going to be coming from, considering some companies have already stop sending out student loans because the banks do not have it. So to some it all up, I think in order for Obama's hopes for the future are even put into effect. This bailout plan will seriously need to work because their won't be jobs for students and if there aren't jobs for students then what will be the incentive for students to go to college taking out these huge amounts in student loans if they know the odds of them actually being able to get a job. I pray this bailout plan works and contributes and places the economy back on track.
  21. Yeah great just what this country needs more lawyers. Or maybe people with soft science liberal art degrees, yeah those philosophy majors are leading the way to our economic growth. Or maybe he means mass com majors, a real winner. Or maybe some more MBA's that did so well with the economy.
  22. Just another feel good speech. How are we going to have more university graduates, with Obama turning America into a welfare state. There will be no need for folks to have an education, there will be no jobs, only Obama's welfare roles.
  23. that sounds pretty impossible.... just kidding haha. but education needs to be more affordable and the schools have to be more academically focused as well as the culture/societal view towards education..
  24. Great idea, but how many is more? We still need people working in factories, gas stations, driving trucks, doing the jobs that don't need a college education. So when does having more college graduates become having too many college graduates.
  25. College isn't for everyone. A lot of people would be better off going to a community college to learn a skill, such as something in the health field. If we start pushing everyone to go to a 4-year college, it will just dumb down college. We already have remedial math and English classes at universities for people who didn't quite master those basic skills in their previous 13 years of education. It's a nice dream to have every kid go to college but not really realistic. Why not just encourage kids to do the best they possibly can and then give them every opportunity to reach those goals?
  26. It is sheer nonsense. What we need is to have more than 50% of inner city students graduate high school. What we need is primary and secondary schools to produce literate students. What we need is to teach primary and secondary students to be proficient at math. The Colleges and Universities are already wasting time and resources teaching incoming freshmen the remedial skills they should have learned before they graduated high school. Just as a high school diploma used to actually mean something in American but now is hardly worth the parchment it is printed on, so it is becoming with college degrees. There was a time when a degree actually meant something. It was a clear indicator that the person who earned it was truly exceptional. Few people had them. Not so now. The graduating more and more people from college can only be accomplished by admitting less and less qualified students. This will have an adverse effect on the degrees' value. If too many people have a Bachelor's degree, you will have to have at least a Master's degree to be of any value at all. The other adverse effect is the massive increase in tuition it will cause. Well meaning but out of touch with reality government programs are already handing out massive amounts of grants and loans which only served to increase demand and increase tuition much higher than it would be if the government stayed out of it. Thus making it necessary for more and more student loans and grants. Now students graduate with massive loan debt. The dirty little secret is, unless they have a good science, engineering or mathematics degree, they will never earn enough to offset the cost of the education. Liberal arts degrees will probably cost the student more in tuition and loan interest than the difference he will realize in his pay over a lifetime. In other words, unless you earn substantially more with the degree than you would have without it, it does not pay to get it. Do not be fooled! With colleges or software, the rule is the same. Garbage in; garbage out. *
  27. I think that is all talk. Putting money in Education isn't going to accomplish that. I heard that the US already spends more money on education than other nations. Pay of teachers is partially the problem, but paying sucky teachers isn't going to help either. Also the way we view education is important too. Too often education is something that ehhh you don't really need. I mean look how people praise those who made it big without having a high school education. So Obama isn't going to change attitudes, and with his "Government can help you" and "don't worry the government can take care of you" ideology he has, I doubt it. Maybe he will have a national grade curve? _________ So you know, I was shocked that in the Philipines high school students day ends at 4pm; and we end at 1:30 pm. Try that in US! Plus parents are complaining about the amount of homework.
  28. It sounds like he wants to spend more money. But that's what Democrats do.
  29. ROFL. China...1 Billion People. India...800 Million People. USA...300 Million People. Lets assume for the argument, you have 1/10th of 1 % (1 in 1000) of the total population finishing high school each year. High School Graduates. China...1 Million high school graduates each year. India... 800 thousand high school grads each year. USA.. 300 thousand high school graduates each year. Now lets assume that 10% of those are even qualified to go to college. China...100,000 go to college each year. India...80,000 go to college each year. USA...30,000 go to college each year. And finally..lets assume only 50% who start college finish it. China...50,000 graduates each year. India. 40,000 graduates each year. USA...15,000 each year.. My thoughts? Obama is a joke and can not even do simple math.
