Where can I find well paid teaching positions overseas?

I am a new graduate Early Childhood teacher (Kindergarten / Primary school qualified). Lots of people have told me that there are some good deals overseas for teachers where you can sometimes get a generous tax-free salary and free accommodation (in the UAE etc.) Just wondering if anybody knows any more information about these teaching positions and how I might apply for them?

  1. Western Australia is currently experiencing a huge teacher shortage and are offering some very attractive incentives to teachers willing to relocate. Department of Education (state schools) jobs are listed on the website below. There are also places at private and church schools.
  2. Gosh, this seems to be a popular question. Here's the deal with overseas schools. If you want to teach at an American or international school, you generally need at least two years of experience in the States first. At my school there are only 2-3 teachers who did not do time in the States first. Once you get that experience, you need to sign on with an agency. The two largest and most reputable agencies are Search Associates and ISS. They will consolidate your rec letters and resume etc, and put it on line for all of the schools looking to hire for your position to see. You also get access to the website, and can send query letters to all of the schools with openings in your field of teaching. It costs about $200, but it is well worth it, because they take care of so much stuff for you. As for making money overseas, I taught in the States for five years before coming to Asia. I actually make a little less money here, but I don't pay any taxes, I drive a school car and I live in a school apartment. I have gone from barely being able to afford my rent to taking vacations (Hong Kong, Bangkok, London, Vietnam) at least twice a year. I get a ton of professional development opportunities and am treated extremely well by my administration. The absolute best money in international teaching is in the Middle East, particularly Saudi, but there are life style sacrifices that many people would not want to make. Asia is a good value too, Africa less so, and you can't save any money at all teaching in Europe. Life is good.
