University Graduates

How does one become a scrub nurse? I am a student about to graduate. I am very interested in working the OR.?

I am a newly minted graduate and I am very curious about this position. It is one of the nursing positions that I gets me excited about working. I have seen "RN OR interships". Does one really have to go into an internship to get into the OR? THANKS for the reply!

  1. Usually yes, you have to have an internship or externship in the OR. They invest a TON of money into training OR nurses who circulate and scrub. You might have up to a year's worth of orientation and coursework to complete as they train you in to do a wide variety of surgeries, depending on the facility you work for. Some hospitals have more competative programs than others. Some welcome new grads while others want some basic med/surg nursing under your belt. You'll have to shop around. Good luck!
