University Graduates

Expect salary as a University graduate in an entry level Accounting position?

I just graduated from 4 years of college at the University of Hawaii and got my Bachelors in Business Admin (BBA) in Accounting. What is about the norm for an entry level Accounting position at a large firm?

  1. Would depend a lot on where the job is - the answer in LA or NYC would be very different from Columbus Ohio or Austin TX
  2. Does Craigs List or other on-line job search site show recruitment advertisement of employers looking for applicants in those kinds of jobs in Hawaii? Would they list salary? It not only depends on the area but if it's a large or small business and the kinds of business (banks are cheap) or a government job (usually with more benefits included). Go with where you want to be in a few years. What industry and what is the ladder up. Or you can take a job which is a dead end.
  3. Probably between $35,000-45,000 depending on where you live. I'm not familiar with Hawaii so I can't tell you. Go to www.salary.com and type it in. Also, a person with a CPA license would probably get paid more than someone without it.
  4. Try going to salary.com and putting in the information into their calculator to get an idea. Is the BBA better than a CPA? If it isn't then I suggest you go back and get your CPA because they are in high demand right now. Congratulations & Good Luck!!
