What happen to apprenticeships, why is some much faith placed on a college education? I have never met anyone that learned how to do a job or make money in college. All college teaches is theory, not application. No to mention college requires you take other classes that are totally useless for your career path. Not to mention every new college grad ive had work under me has had to spend 6 months to a year training because they didnt anything about how to do the job. Really before 1950 apprenticeships were how most people learned how to be a professional. Why did college win out as the word of god in education?

What jobs can apprenticeships lead into? This is for a careers assignment. I'm still not quite getting it. I'm going to need just a few examples. Also, what kind of work can people do, leading from apprenticeships? Thanks in advance.
Why aren't apprenticeships more common outside of construction? Apprenticeships to me seem like the absolute best and most efficient way to get into a career. Learning on the job with progressing wages as your skills increase, and not racking up a big college debt. College just seems so inefficent because you spend all this time and money just to get a piece of paper and only a fraction of what you learned, if any, might actually go towards what you do on the job. So why does it seem like there are so few apprenticeships out there, and the only ones seem to be labor intensive construction trades?

In Australian schools are males dicouraged from doing well and pushed into apprenticeships? In high school, the boys are told by the guidance officer to get into school based apprenticeships and traineeships. This means that they only do 3 days of actual school work, 1 day at college and 1 day for work as an apprentice. However the girls are guided towards more academic based subjects which may lead to University. This is because a school wants to maintain its academic reputation and discourages boys from doing well, as girls are seen as the more academic achievers. I

Are apprenticeships as glamourous as they make it seem? I mean to me it sounds like a really good option, learning while you work, so you get more experience than sitting in a room looking at books. And getting paid the same time. But to employers, are they worth anything? Has anyone ever done an apprenticeship?
Does anyone know a good site with info on adult apprenticeships? I am 25 and thinking of doing a vehicle mechanics apprenticeship,I know at my age you have to pay but cant seem to find much more info on it. Why cant there be more adult apprenticeships and training schemes? I want to change my career. I am 30 and its so tough I have bills to pay. I want to move away from office work and become a physiotherapist (so much training involved university etc.) I have a phys friend who says its a great career with far too many barriers (in his opinion) rewarding yet not that challenging career its not rocket science but you have to invest and study like a doctor.

I want to begin with documentary making/presenting and go onto working behind the scenes in film/television, either directing or doing camera work. Thank you for any help you can give :)
Are there any apprenticeships for Engineering in the USA? I have done some research. But it seems all of the apprenticeships for this are overseas. I would really like to find an apprentice or something similar so I can make this a career. Any information would be very helpful. Thanks
How are tattoo apprenticeships like? I've heard a lot of different information, but I figured it can't hurt to keep asking elsewhere as I do my own research. Do you usually have to pay? How long do they last? What are some good courses to take that will help me? If you are a tattoo artist, I want to know what it is that would make someone ideal for having a tattoo apprenticeship? Any information at all is really appreciated.
Why are apprenticeships not common or even exist in America? Doing an apprenticeship dose involve college though, normally you work in your chosen profession 4 days a week and your employer releases you 1 day a week to attend college so you can gain all the qualifications you need for your chosen job and further education such as uni.

Should we resuscitate the idea of apprenticeships? There is a great emphasis on college, but not everyone is inclined toward academic life or the military. What about an apprenticeship in a trade? I was watching “Great Expectations” where the character Pip is apprenticed to a blacksmith. I think something similar would be useful in our time. What do you think?
Does anyone know of places that will do apprenticeships? I'm 27 and Female and am very keen in doing an electrician apprenticeship. However most places only are interested in boys just out of school. How to switch Apprenticeships on WoW? So I didn't know you could only have two apprenticeships on world of warcraft and now I want to get rid of the ones I know which is herbalism and leatherworking how do I get rid of them two so I can become apprentice of other abilities?
why is it that apprenticeships have such a low income when they are needed badly in some fields? young people dont want to do apprenticeships because of the wage they earn. how are they supposed to survive on the income that is granted to them. $7 or $8 an hour before tax that is $239 per week before tax and that is not a lot of money and yet they are expected to live and pay rent or board and pay for their training gear. how do you expect them to do that? not everyone has parents that can help them.
Why do people chose culinary schools over traditional apprenticeships? Let me say first I have been a Chef for almost 20 years, back then there was only a couple of schools to choose from and no food network...do yourself a favor and get a job under a good chef and get a business degree... culinary schools are ripping people off, way to expensive...
Apprenticeships involving child care and education? I'm 18 and currently at college but wanting to do an apprenticeship that involves child care and education. How could I find out what is available in the North Yorkshire area? And what sorts of career opportunities will this give me?
Why are there age limits for apprenticeships , yet not for higher education? It appears to serve an apprenticeship you have to be 16 to 24, ok , so employers might not want to invest money in a 60 year old (sorry sexagenarians ) but at 32 years of age, and in the present economic climate, i could be working for the next 40 years. And yet at 32, i would be positively welcomed into higher ed.
does anyone know any exciting apprenticeships? i live in Australia, and i am looking for a job, but i really want a apprenticeship, but most apprenticeships seem to be boring, and i want an exciting one. One where you travel to exotic locations, you know something cool lol.
Whats happened to apprenticeships and Youth Training? So many older people in this country have skills such as electricians, mechanics, plumbing etc because in those days it was easy to leave school and go into an apprenticeship. You could learn a skill which in time might allow you to set up your own business and earn a decent living. These days our younger generation are condemned to work in callcentres for £6 an hour, or else go to university and get massively into debt studying Computer Science and the like, whilst immigrants do the skilled jobs. Is this right?
