Which one works a more regular schedule? Which one offers a lot of side job opportunities, such as work for friends and stuff outside work? Is the job outlook for either one better than the other? Is plumbing the right choice for a person like me? I am a 27 year old female looking to get out of the retail industry. My local college offers a plumbing pre-apprenticeship and I'm very interested but because I'm a woman, and older than most college students, I'm nervous about going for it. What can I expect? Is this something a woman can reasonably do? Thanks in advance for your answers.

I am in the army and we will both be moving to north carolina. my question is, will the two years he has put in on his current apprenticeship in illinois be able to transfer over to an apprenticeship in north carolina so he will be able to get his license, or will he have to start from scratch?
Going for an interview for an apprenticeship in plumbing? In my application one of the questions on the form asks what relevant work experience I have for the job. Does working as an odd job man count? i cleaned out someone's gutter by scrapping the crap out. Said i repaired a toilet, what else should i say? Also, I lived abroad for long time and only came back recently, am I still eligible for the course if I only came back six months ago? Does this affect my application to other college courses?
How does an apprenticeship work? Im thinkin about joining the army reserve and either go for Electrician or Plumbing. Then joining an apprenticeship for one of the two. Plumbing apprenticeship? I am interested in getting a plumbing apprenticeship and one of my friends suggested I apply to the apprenticeship program in the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters. I like the idea, especially because I think unions rock, but what are my options if I don't get accepted? Should I take courses at a trade school? (I live in the US, by the way. I only mention it because there are a lot of plumbing-related questions on Yahoo! Answers that are directed at people living in the UK)

Can I start a plumbing apprenticeship from scratch in the UK if I am 24? (I am British)? I want to train as a plumber in the UK via an apprenticeship but am unsure whether my age is likely to be a problem as I am 24. Also, I wondered whether (assuming I can do an apprenticeship) I would need to start at NVQ 2, or if my 8 GCSE's grade A-C would allow me to start at NVQ 3. I have no plumbing experience whatsoever but have been receiving mixed answers to this question. Thanks for your help in advance guys!

I am looking to get into the Plumbing business and would like to find an Apprenticeship? Hi, I'm 17 years old and recently dropped out of college due to realising I have no interest in my course or the careers I could get out of it. What I really would like to get into now, after a lot of thought, is plumbing. I'm not really sure how to go about getting myself an apprenticeship though and was wondering if any of you could help me out. I have a friend who does a plumbing apprenticeship and earns £150~ a week and does 4 days work, 1 day college. I would like something similar to this. Unfortunately the company he is at is no longer looking for new apprentices :/
Is it easy for women to get into plumbing? I'm seriously considering doing some sort of plumbing course, because I've been told by my Australian friend that the country has a national shortage of plumbers out there, and therefore the plumbers they do have are like almost millionaires who live in massive houses! However I'm wondering whether or not the trade is sexist. I mean, as a woman would I find it impossible to get an apprenticeship or a job? And would I be harassed and bullied by my male colleagues just because I'm a woman?

Whats happened to apprenticeships and Youth Training? So many older people in this country have skills such as electricians, mechanics, plumbing etc because in those days it was easy to leave school and go into an apprenticeship. You could learn a skill which in time might allow you to set up your own business and earn a decent living. These days our younger generation are condemned to work in callcentres for £6 an hour, or else go to university and get massively into debt studying Computer Science and the like, whilst immigrants do the skilled jobs. Is this right?

How can I get an Apprenticeship? I am 24 years old and I am looking for an apprenticeship in Plumbing, Painting And Decorating, Construction or fitting Double Glazing but have been told that people only do apprenticeships for 16-18 year olds. If anyone can help that would be brilliant. Thanks
is there anything similar to young people's apprenticeships available for adults? my friend has been working in construction all his life doing demolition, a bit of benchwork, site labouring etc as well as 4 years tyre fitting but has never really got a skilled trade behind him. I am aware there's plenty of crash courses out there to do plastering, plumbing etc but employers clearly want time served. I wondered how he could go about finding an employer that would train him in a skill, as he's too old for a modern apprenticeship, or any courses that would open the door to gaining employment with experience. Any help would be much appreciated
What are the pros and cons of being a plumber? ? I'm thinking of going to a trade school and take a plumbing pre-apprenticeship course. But I'm just wondering what are the pros and cons of a being a plumber? From what I know, there are times that you have to be under the ground in the sewers for 12 hours or more fixing the pipes as the crap flies in your face (literally). However on the good side, I heard this job has a potential for you to make 6 figures. Any other pros and cons you might like to add? Thanks.
work based learning in australia? does one have to have a plumbing license or ID of some sort to get hired as a plumber? is experience (I have none) and or a form of "Letter of Recognition" from a school enough? There is a college near me that offers Plumbing 1 and Plumbing 2 courses, 4 credits each, and upon completion with a grade of "C" or better, I'll receive a "Letter of Recognition". Is a "Letter of Recognition" enough to try to get hired? How is the hiring process based on? Experience? Do I need any special license or an ID identifying me as a plumber? How do I get certified? Does companies like Cropp Metcalfe offer apprenticeships? After all they do plumbing work as far as I know.
is it wise to make a career change in the midst of rebuilding credit an on the cusp of debt free? i was thinking about doing a plumbing apprenticeship but i will have to take 16k paycut for about 2.5 years but will have a 18k raise at the end of 5yrs i have a kid goin to high school and will have 3 in highschool by the time im out of apprenticeship. my wife works and is finishing her degree this year which will help especially in the southeast. we dont own a home now because we relocated and are in the process of paying off the last 5-6k of debt. my dilemma is wanting to solidify a career for the next 25 years but not having to cook my childrent o eat if you know what i mean. please advise(carter1171@yahoo.com)
can someone please explain apprenticeships to me? I am about to graduate with an honors degree in psychology and could probably get into any graduate school i applied to. But I have no clue what I want to do so i never applied to any. I am now considering spending my life learning several new skills, rather than specializing in one area. These could range from auto maintenance to plumbing to other vocational skills. How do apprenticeships work? I dont need to be paid alot but would like to avoid going into debt for education (part of the reason why im avoiding graduate school is that it is expensive!). Essentially, i would like a way to try out different fields without having to pay massive amounts for them incase I decide that they were not right for me. For instance, I know an auto mechanic who would probably teach me for free when he had jobs... but would this count for anything in the real world, or would i need it on paper stating that I went through an accredited program?
